My Commitment to You.
I am running because I love this County and I know we can do great things together; we have so many assets. With new visionary leaders, we can create economic opportunity, tackle our challenges, and make government work.
I want to invest in aging infrastructure (of which there is a lot) and new infrastructure, public health, public safety, housing, and quality of life.
I will focus on improving the public health of County citizens; immediately addressing real crises such as fentanyl overdoses, mental illness, and poor health outcomes in general, since Cowlitz County is ranked near the bottom in the State.
I want to create new economic opportunities. We can be great; a magnet for recreation, industry, and those seeking improved quality of life. We cannot do that by being a silo County. We must build partnerships and seek resources from state and federal agencies and office holders, our cities, and other allies. Our general fund is too limited to go after the big ideas; ones that can transform our community.
We have the BEST heavy industrial project site in the western united states. The old Reynolds. We have an opportunity to create something BIG there, resulting in big job growth, boosting our overall economy and improving our reputation ALL at the same time. And that is just one big thing; there will be more.
I want to tackle homelessness through comprehensive strategies. It’s true, the lack of affordable housing and homelessness are obviously linked, as is the link between homelessness and mental health AND homelessness and addiction.
I want to maintain our responsible stewardship of our beautiful natural resources. That includes stormwater (and yes, we can improve on that front) and polluted groundwater. I will work to reduce undocumented, dysfunctional, and failing wells. And, I will do all that while ensuring fiscal health and fiscal responsibility.

I grew up fishing... I fished A LOT. On the Cowlitz, Columbia, Lake Sacajawea, and the Toutle River. We need to protect and improve the health of our fabulous rivers AND lakes and expand recreational access; they bring us so much. We have Unacceptable levels of water pollution at two valuable county lakes. WE CAN DO BETTER.
On the flip side, I know you know, we face many challenges as a community; our public health outcomes are well below the state average, as is our economy. Unemployment, substance abuse, and homelessness are all hurting the pursuit of happiness—our constitutional right. My job as County Commissioner is to improve the lives of those who live in this community.
The role of government and public policy is to provide solutions for our challenges and strategies for our goals that benefit of all citizens in the County. Let’s move toward hope and away from grievances. Let’s take our opportunities by deciding what we want to be.
